Biography
Dr. Vivek Saxena is a highly accomplished forestry, natural resource management, and environment professional, serving as a member of the Indian Forest Service since 1991. With an impressive portfolio that spans over three decades, he has gained extensive expertise in climate change, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable development.
Dr. Saxena holds a Doctorate (PhD) in “Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Potential of Agroforestry in Northern Plains of India” from the Forest Research Institute, Dehradun (2013). He also completed a Master’s Degree in Forestry, a two-year professional course for Indian Forest Service Officers (1992-1994), and a Master’s in Physics with a specialization in Electronics from Lucknow University (1987). Additionally, he earned a Bachelor in Law (LL.B) from Delhi University (2013-2016) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Environmental Law from the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi (2009).
His international experience is remarkable, having visited more than 35 countries and actively participated in pivotal conferences, including UNFCCC, UNCCD, and CBD. Dr. Saxena specializes in project formulation and management, particularly with GEF and GCF initiatives, addressing critical environmental issues in the Hindukush Himalayan region.
A dynamic leader, he excels in building and maintaining motivated teams, emphasizing collaboration and open communication. Known for his integrity and strategic vision, Dr. Saxena effectively engages with a wide range of stakeholders, from governmental bodies to NGOs like IUCN and UNEP.
His leadership style is inclusive, with a strong commitment to incorporating gender perspectives and robust evaluation systems into projects. Dr. Saxena is dedicated to evidence-based policy development and sustainable solutions, positioning him as a visionary force in addressing today’s pressing environmental challenges.
